Quantones

Yes, you read that right - I managed to attach the quantum buzzword to a sound pack. While working in the lab, I noticed that the equipment around me makes a lot of interesting sounds, so I went around and recorded them. On top of that, I converted some datasets into spectrograms and put it all together into a funky sample pack.

The resulting sounds are perfect for ambient electronic sounds, the background music in your mainframe area, ray-gun noises, robot speech, or, if you add some guitar and chainsaw noises, the next DOOM soundtrack.

The equipment sounds are captured from a dilution refrigerator, an atomic force microscope, and other equipment around the lab. The data-derived sounds come from electrical measurements of quantum phenomena in real nano-devices and scanning electron microscope or atomic force microscope images converted into spectrograms. The result is unique and authentic soundscapes where physical processes govern the tone and rhythm and measurement artefacts become interesting background chirps.

Contents

The full pack contains 79 sounds:

  • 33 processed one-shots or ambience
  • 6 seamless loops
  • 14 tonal shifts (B3 - C5) for producing melodies
  • 26 raw files for those who know better

Alternatively, the lite version contains 39 sounds:

  • 33 processed one-shots or ambience
  • 6 seamless loops

All processed sounds are normalized, background removed, and ready to use.
